Set Pics Of New Superman Movie

// March 17th, 2005 // No Comments » // Movies

Image hosted by Photobucket.comIGN reports that Reuters has posted some spy pictures of the set of the new Superman movie.

Similarly, Superman-v.com also sports spy pictures of the set, but according to reports Reuters employed a helicopter to obtain their revealing aerial shots.

One of these shots show the star-shaped spaceship that carried baby Kal-El from Krypton to Kansas.

Over at The Planet (part of the Blue Tights Network) they have some pretty good fan art, best of all is probably Kate Bosworth as Supergirl.

Cracking The Da Vinci Code

// January 24th, 2005 // 3 Comments » // Movies

I recently finished reading Dan Brown’sThe Da Vinci Code’ and must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. This definitely ranks high up on my ‘must-read’ list of conspiracy-theory mystery thrillers.

I was equally pleased to find out that Ron Howard was going to direct the screen adaptation of the book. Other cast members confirmed to date is Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump), Jean Reno (Ronin) and most recently Audrey Tautou (Amelie).

Tautou is to play French cryptologist Sophie Neveu. It is her grandfather’s murder in the Louvre that brings her and a Harvard professor (Hanks) together to search for his killer as they also try to unravel a secret that involves the foundation of Christianity. French actor Jean Reno is cast as Detective Bezu Fache. [Via]

Production will start mid-2005, with the release expected in May 2006. I can’t wait…..

Kevin Spacey Cast As Lex Luthor

// January 9th, 2005 // 1 Comment » // Movies

According to SciFi: “Kevin Spacey has been cast as the villainous Lex Luthor in director Bryan Singer’s upcoming Superman movie, Variety reported. The film, also called Superman Returns, is set to begin production at Fox Studios in Sydney on March 3.

Warner Brothers, meanwhile, is seeking to sign Spacey’s Beyond the Sea co-star Kate Bosworth to play Lois Lane, as previously rumored. Spacey and Bosworth will join newcomer Brandon Routh, who was chosen in October to play the Man of Steel.

Singer said that this is not an origin story. I didn’t want to remake what Richard Donner did so well in the original and didn’t want to tread on the great work they’re doing on Smallville. He’s already part of the culture; he has left the planet. This is the story of his return.”

Hmm, I’m not entirely convinced about casting Spacey in the role of Lex Luthor, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this one turns out.

Smallville: The Complete Third Season

// November 24th, 2004 // No Comments » // Movies

As mentioned before, the complete third season of Smallville is now available on DVD and if you’re a fan like me, you’ll appreciate the review over at IGN.com.

According to the review: “Despite season two’s unquestionable quality, Smallville’s third season is probably its best…

Not surprisingly The DVD iteration of Smallville: The Complete Third Season continues the same excellent standards set forth by the first two boxes and is undoubtedly worth the sixty bones you’ll have to pay for it.”

It’s definitely worth every cent if you ask me.

Brandon Routh To Play Superman

// November 12th, 2004 // 1 Comment » // Movies

According to Zap2it.com: “Director Bryan Singer says that an unknown actor was “essential” to play the lead in the upcoming “Superman” film. The “X-Men” filmmaker reveals that he was inspired by George Reeves and Christopher Reeve — who previously played the Man of Steel — to introduce an actor whose acting history wouldn’t interfere with creating an indelible Superman image.

In October, however, he finally confirmed the casting of relatively unknown soap star Brandon Routh. Singer did consider Tom Welling, who already embodies Superman on the WB drama “Smallville,” but says the budget and the direction of the film wasn’t right to make what would seem like a “Smallville” feature.”

Personally I would have liked to see Welling as the lead in Superman, but Singer is probably right in saying that someone ‘relatively unknown’ might be better in portraying the Superman image.

There are a lot of expectations around this movie and I just hope that the story line is strong enough not to be overshadowed by all the expected special effects.
