Lightning strikes twice

Lightning strikes twice on JPG magazineI’ve had a change of heart for the Split Second Theme to be published in Issue 15 and changed my submission from the “You can leave your hat on” to this one. It’s one I took earlier this year during a typical Highveld thunder storm and I think it works better with the overall concept of the theme.

“Split-second is about photography that catches the action at just the right moment. Show us your shots where a few seconds can make all the difference – the goalie in mid-dive, a Formula One photo-finish, that decisive moment right before the scene changes completely. In photography, sometimes timing is everything.

I’m sure you’ll all agree that this picture is probably better suited than the previous one. Any comments/thoughts/critique?

PS: After this post, I’ll lay off the gratuitous self-promotion for a while. Thanks for voting by the way.

You can leave your hat on

Grass hat elephant at JHB ZooLately I’ve been getting into the whole JPG Magazine thing and would love to get at least one of my photographs into the magazine.

According to the site, “JPG Magazine is for people who love imagemaking without attitude. It’s about the kind of photography you get when you love the moment more than the camera. It’s for photographers who, like us, have found themselves online, sharing their work, and would like to see that work in print.”

I’m really only starting out compared to many other great photographers out there. I get tones of ideas, tips and inspiration from sites like Flickr and JPG Magazine, which has so far helped a lot in developing my ‘skill’. The constructive feedback from friends have been amazing so far – so thank you and keep them coming

This is another submission of mine, so click on the image and vote for it on the JPG Magazine page if you think it’s worthy to be included in the next edition. While you’re at it, get your friends and family to vote, give props, favourite and comment on it too.

Toshiba Satellite Pro A200

I received a press release the other day announcing that Toshiba Computer Systems Group expanded its HD DVD notebook line-up. The Toshiba Qosmio G40, Satellite X200, Satellite P200 and Satellite A200 are all HD DVD enabled notebooks featuring high-definition widescreen displays with resolutions of either 720p or 1080p and sizes ranging from 15.4 to 17 inches.

One of these HD DVD notebooks might come in very handy over the holidays, especially if you’re home bound because of rain or something. Then again, the fact that these are HD, might be reason enough.

The Qosmio G40 and Satellite X200 come equipped with Dolby Home Theater technology and built-in Harman Kardon Bass Reflex stereo speakers with a subwoofer, while the Satellite P200 and Satellite A200 notebooks harness the power of Dolby Sound Room Technology, delivering a virtual surround sound experience from stereo speakers.

More details of the Qosmio G40, Satellite X200, Satellite P200 and Satellite A200 notebooks featuring HD DVD drives, are available from the www.toshiba.co.za website. With a price tag starting from R9 990, it might just be something you’d want to find in your holiday stocking.
