US Navy Snafu

// September 28th, 2007 // 4 Comments » // Interesting

According to MSNBC – the U.S. Navy will have to spend $600,000 to modify a 40-year-old barracks complex that resembles a swastika from the air. Although officials noticed the shape back in 1967, they decided not to do anything about it because it wasn’t obvious from the ground.

With the advent of Google Earth and similar services, the image has been seen by a worldwide audience and now demands attention. The Navy will build a series of landscaping, walkways and solar cells to hide the offending shape from aerial views. A bit of a snafu for the Navy.

Check out the Google Earth Satellite Image of the building.

As many (or few) of you will know, it’s been an absolute hectic few months of late. We’ve been in preparing and hosting an international conference in Cape Town for work, which finally came to a close yesterday (6th September). So my life will return back to normal once I’ve gone through the 1132* unread emails sitting in my inbox.

I need to tell you about my experience at Floyd’s 99 Barbershop and I’ve been playing around with the HTC Touch for a few days, so check out for these very soon.

On the flipside, my HTC TyTN decided that it had enough and the touchscreen is no longer working. Alas, I’ll have to get that puppy fixed. Hope they won’t charge me an arm and a leg for it.

Till later then.

* The 1132 emails was slighly exaggerated – it was actually 132, but it feels like that 1000 extra is sitting there.
