Petrol Shortage due to wage strikeAccording to News24.com, the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers’ Union (Ceppawu) [*try to say that 10 times fast with marshmallows in your mouth] released a statement (on 26/07/2007) indicating that they would strike over failed wage talks.

If you are on the roads today, you’d be forgiven to think you were in Zimbabwe. We’re definitely starting to feel the effects of this strike and you’d be hard pressed to find any petrol at the hundreds of service stations around the city. In particular, the service stations around Sandton were gridlocked today, with drivers anxiously awaiting their turn to fill up their cars.

Lucky I could locate all the petrol stations in my area with my trusty Garmin Nuvi, fill up and be on my merry way. Pity I left all the Jerrycans at home, they would have come in quite handy.

I’m looking into getting myself a GPS. Are you still happy with your Garmin Nuvi?

Oh yeah, I’ve opted for the not driving around option. Excellent excuse to work from home until the strike is over :)

and yet “they” kept saying there was no shortage and that the public was filling up in a panic… which makes sense in a way- demand outstripped supply- but who started the shortage story anyway?

Sorry I missed it – was in Mauritius sipping on a cocktail thinking about whether or not I should swim in the pool or the ocean. :P
