HTC Touch Launched

I was recently invited by Tribeca Public Relations to attend the launch of the new HTC Touch smartphone, but as some of you know, I had some scans done on Thursday and could not attend. However, they’ve graciously sent me the information and some pics for review. It also turns out Tyler Reed was in attendance.
As regular visitors may know, I’ve been a HTC TyTn user since January and I’m loving it. Quite recently, I’ve also been asked to review the Samsung SGH-i600, which is a real smart phone and a good business device.
So I was quite sad to have missed the official launch of the HTC Touch, a phone that’s been dubbed the “i-phone killer”.
According to the spec sheet the phone features TouchFLO, the new underlying touch screen technology developed by HTC. It offers a new way of controlling touch screen-based devices by recognising and responding to the sweep of a finger across the screen. It is even intelligent enough to distinguish between finger and stylus input and then respond accordingly.
Built on Windows Mobile 6 Professional, the HTC Touch includes Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile, Windows Live and Internet Explorer.
Other HTC Touch details include:
- Dimensions: 99.9mm (L) x 58mm (W) x 13.9mm (T)
- Weight: 112g with battery
- 1GB microSD storage card included / 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM
- 2.8’’ LCD touch screen with backlight, 240 x 320 dots resolution with 65,536 colours
- Battery Life: Rechargeable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1100 mAh
- Standby time: Up to 200 / Talk time: Up to 5 hours
- Camera: 2.0 mega-pixel CMOS colour camera
- Windows Mobile 6 Professional with Direct Push Email and HTML email support
- Wireless Connectivity: GSM/GPRS/EDGE Tri-band: 900, 1800,1900, Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.0
- Soft black colour
The HTC Touch will be distributed through Leaf and word has it that it will be available by August. Now if only I could get my hands on one to check it out for myself…

Yeah, agreed, no 3G silly silly boys! What is the point of bringing out state of the art phones when they’re not state of the art ? P.S. You planning on doing a review on the iPhone. Now that’s a phone

Mortgage SA – I find it interesting that you are interested in the iPhone and not the Touch, although both don’t have 3G support?!! For me, the iPhone is a winner on looks alone…

I must agree, nowdays 3G/HSDPA is a must… If not using it on the phone, you certainly want to use it as a internet passthrough
The iPhone certainly looks pritty, but will it perform? I guess the same goes for the Touch.
It’s down to the wire now – or should it be wireless?

Been using HTC phones for almost 3 years now and I am done with them. This weekend I was in the States and so got to play around with the iPhone, I can say with certainty, nothing HTC currently produces will come close to impacting sales of the iPhone, in a nutshell the iPhone rocks and after 3 years of trying I’m giving up on HTC.

OK, I lied, I have just gone and got myself an HTC Touch, against my better judgement I think. As with all bloody HTC phones I hope I don’t live to regret my decision in a few weeks time!!!
If it sucks, I swear, SWEAR, this is the last time I get an HTC!!!!

hahaha dave you beauty…So when can we expect the review?

I had TyTN for 3 months; now for 3 weeks I have Touch and everyday enjoy it!

Sounds gr8… but no 3G… definitely off my list then!
