Lucky Number 27

// June 28th, 2007 // 10 Comments » // Blog Stuff, Geek Dinners

Awesome, cool, funky, beauty, shweet, happy, joyous - I’ve run out of words to describe how stoked and delighted I am.  One could say even euphoric.

Why you ask?  Well, thanks for that excellent question.  You see ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, geeks, jeeks and a special shout out to my Mom, it turns out that the folk at Zoopy have made their decision.

Sony DVD video camera - sponsored by Zoopy.comHuh? I hear some of you say?  Let me explain.  For some time now, Zoopy ran a competition – post a picture or video of any 27dinner event, upload it to Zoopy.com and voila you are entered to win one of two Sony DVD video cameras for the trouble.

As it happens the first of the two cameras were given away at the Cape Town 27dinner event and I am lucky number 27.  Yes folks, I was called by Gerry and Jason earlier this week to let me know that I had won the first video camera.  Awesome stuff.

Unfortunately due to a scheduled overnight visit to the local hospital this week, I was unable to attend the Cape Town chapter of the 27dinner event held last night.

However I was able to record a short acceptance speech prior to the event, which can be viewed on Zoopy of course.

Now you can really see and erm hear what I sound like.

*Note to self: remember to check the background “props” next time I record something…

HTC Touch Launched

// June 23rd, 2007 // 11 Comments » // Tech

I was recently invited by Tribeca Public Relations to attend the launch of the new HTC Touch smartphone, but as some of you know, I had some scans done on Thursday and could not attend. However, they’ve graciously sent me the information and some pics for review. It also turns out Tyler Reed was in attendance.

As regular visitors may know, I’ve been a HTC TyTn user since January and I’m loving it. Quite recently, I’ve also been asked to review the Samsung SGH-i600, which is a real smart phone and a good business device.

According to the spec sheet the phone features TouchFLO, the new underlying touch screen technology developed by HTC. It offers a new way of controlling touch screen-based devices by recognising and responding to the sweep of a finger across the screen. It is even intelligent enough to distinguish between finger and stylus input and then respond accordingly.

Built on Windows Mobile 6 Professional, the HTC Touch includes Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile, Windows Live and Internet Explorer.

Other HTC Touch details include:

  • Dimensions: 99.9mm (L) x 58mm (W) x 13.9mm (T)
  • Weight: 112g with battery
  • 1GB microSD storage card included / 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM
  • 2.8’’ LCD touch screen with backlight, 240 x 320 dots resolution with 65,536 colours
  • Battery Life: Rechargeable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1100 mAh
  • Standby time: Up to 200 / Talk time: Up to 5 hours
  • Camera: 2.0 mega-pixel CMOS colour camera
  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional with Direct Push Email and HTML email support
  • Wireless Connectivity: GSM/GPRS/EDGE Tri-band: 900, 1800,1900, Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.0
  • Soft black colour

The HTC Touch will be distributed through Leaf and word has it that it will be available by August. Now if only I could get my hands on one to check it out for myself…

A quick update

// June 20th, 2007 // 12 Comments » // General

It’s been a busy time here at Aquila Online.

  • I’m going for some more tests over the next few days as the previous one appears to be inconclusive and the doctor ‘just wants to make sure we didn’t miss anything’. That’s good news in my books.

  • I’m posting weekly content to the Samsung blog based on the review of the Samsung SGH-i600 and if you haven’t voted for me yet, please pop over there and cast your ballot. Maybe you can raise my stakes as it seems the voting booth is hotting up and the popularity contest is well under way.

  • I don’t think I can mention enough that Jesus Christ our Lord is amazing. My recent camp was awesome and I got baptised again together with the love of my life. It was an awesomely blessed experience.

  • While I’m on this note, if you’re looking for a great family movie with a positive message, definitely get yourself Facing the giants – the story about a Christian high school football coach who uses his undying faith to battle the giants of fear and failure.

  • Also on the note of spiritual messages, if you find astronomy fascinating then you will probably want to get the Louie Giglio, Indescribable Tour DVD.

    The DVD takes you on an image-rich journey through the universe, showcasing the magnitude of God’s amazing greatness and grace. The billions and billions of stars above remind us how big God is and how small we really are. Yet He knows each star and He calls each person by name. A powerful message indeed.

    PS: If you don’t want to import it, our church has a few of them left as far as I know, so drop me a line if you’re interested in a copy.

I Hate To Wait

Not me, I quite fancy myself as a patient person, unlike our BMW X5 driver spotted earlier.

**Sorry for a lack of posting updated content of late, the regular schedule will resume in due course. Since I’m lacking good content, I leave you with the odd vanity plate or three for now. You’ll just have to wait a bit longer for the good stuff.
