Beat Traffic In Style

I’ve been meaning to post this for some time now, but with a hectic work schedule and a bout of flu theres been very little time for blogging.
Anyhow, recently I had to take on early morning traffic for a client meeting in Pretoria and was quite surprised that the N14 (Krugersdorp highway) was a far better bet than the traditional N1 route. This was however not the case coming back to Sandton.
Traffic was backed up as far as the eye could see and diverting to the back roads wasn’t such a great idea either.

So, this brings me to the point of the post. Being stuck in traffic has its advantages, firstly you can catch up on all your podcasts and you have some time to think (creatively mind you).
Thoughts range from how you can’t wait for an automatic transmission during your next car upgrade, how you would build a flying car to get over the traffic and less bizarre, if only you had a motorbike.
Hmmm..a motorcycle…
This is where the Royal Enfield comes into play. I saw the Royal Enfield South Africa dealership at 44 Stanley Avenue, Milpark on my way to a breakfast meeting at Blah Blah Blah.

It was pretty much love at first sight. The range includes the Bullet Army, Bullet Machismo, Bullet Electra, and Bullet Classic Deluxe.
My favourite is the Bullet Army with it’s twin loading boxes on the back - enough space for that laptop and odds and ends that you need to trek to the office and back. Imagine arriving at work with such a stylish, classic and unique motorcycle.
More importantly, picture yourself cruising the open road, wind blowing in the hair on the way to Harties for breakfast. Now that’s the life. Who said anything about getting stuck in traffic?
An interesting tidbit is that you can pick up one of these Royal Enfield’s for less than R50 000. At that price, the idea doesn’t seem so far fetched any more.
I think I will go and take one of these for a test drive and I urge you to do the same.
Don’t forget your scarf and eye goggles…cos these bikes aren’t cool, they’re debonair.

A scarf and goggles really are essential…only maybe one of those very long scarves is probably not a good idea?
-
Yeah, I guess one of those long ones may get caught somewhere…

Bikes are extremely cool. Especially in winter.

very cool indeed dude- i’ll be buying myself a ducati monster s4r one day… then i’ll be biking the 29th parallel soon afterwards. i can’t wait!

Kyk: Cool being used in the temperature sense of course…ya damn cold in frosty winter times. Not so good if you have a runny nose..that stuff freezes on the side of your cheeks man.
Angel: A monster indeed. I think I’ll take it slow and comfortable instead…

uhm, beating the traffic… these ‘bulets’ have a top speed of just under 100km/hour, so that will only realy be the case in jams, - rest of the time you better keep an eye on your rearview mirrors :-), but they are seriosly cute.
-
Andre: well yes, currently I have a blistering fast average speed of 23km/h in the daily traffic over a distance of 15km. So my guess is that the bullet will definitely not stand still most of the time. I just need to be faster than the average around me. Even at a 40km/h I’lll still cut my travel time almost in half.

:- ) okay - you win, we can go for a leisurely breakfast run - once the weather improves - when you have it

These bikes are a pain in the arse… literally! Ask anyone that has ridden them in India put they are a breeze to maintain, pliers and bailing wire is all you need, just like the Ford Model T. How they can justify the prices though is beyond me. Myselves are looking at a KLR650…
