Telkom Rocks

As some of you may recall, last week I added a stopwatch counter on the blog to see how long it will take Telkom from the time I apply for a Telkom ADSL line till installation.
Well yesterday afternoon, a total of 7 Days, 23 minutes and 12 seconds later, I received confirmation that everything was online and working. Normally the standard turnaround time is 4-6 weeks.
A big thanks goes to Shaheen from the Telkom Retail Business division who pulled out all the stops to get it up and running. It also turns out Shaheen has been a long time subscriber and reader of Aquila Online. Awesome man.
Now I do realise that there are still a lot of customers who have issues, but it’s good to know that there are a bunch of dedicated people within Telkom who really want to make a success of the business and who want to make their clients happy. So this is just a small note to say, thanks guys, Telkom rocks!

I’ve been blown away by Telkom’s service in the last week – but I wonder if it’s not a knee-jerk reaction to the mobile broadband price war going on.
My line was down yesterday morning, voice and DSL, I called in the fault and it was fixed by the afternoon. I’ve had 3 follow-up calls to make sure all is sorted. Let’s hope this is the beginning of a new approach to customer service from our friendly national telecoms provider.

They initially installed out ADSL fairly quickly – but it has been mostly out of order since then (+/- a month 2 months ago)…
Today two friendly lads came to re-install it at last. Lets hope it actually works now.Congratulations on your victory…I mean service.

hey Louisa, glad to hear they were “friendly lads”. hehe you can say victory again…

Telkom have to start being faster and friendlier now thats it’s cheaper to get broadband from the MTN and Vodacom.

hey Debbie…yes indeed. I was very upset when I heard about Vodacom’s price slashing on their 3G accounts. Unfortunately for me, I live in a “dead zone” at home. No 3G coverage to speak of.
However on the road, that’s another thing.
More competitive pricing will definitely be welcomed. -
I applied for DSL on the 23rd of August 2006. I’ve been delayed twice and I’m still waiting…

Wow! From Rafiq we know that anything is possible by blogging. Now it seems like Blogging gets you ADSL too! But of course publishing hate ads in the Mail & Guardian seems to be even more effective, getting you ADSL the next day. I have been struggling now for over a year with no success. I have actually officially given up; I am going to do the Telkom DIY thing now. That’s anyway a much better deal if you ask me – free modem with no installation fee until the end of March. Nice.
