Thumbs-up To SARocks

Despite tales of personal crime, degrading infrastucture and sometimes a general lack of service, South Africa is still very much the best place in the world to live in.
We have a stunning climate, awesome scenery and so many other things to be grateful for. As Dave also mentioned, we all need to collectively take responsiblity to build the brand of the country and to promote the good news.
This is why it’s imperative that we support and build on initiatives that spread the love for our country. Nic Haralambous recently started South Africa Rocks! to do just that, get people to start acting and thinking positively about South Africa.
So do your bit by submitting your contributions (a story, a photo, a line, a word) to show us how much you think South Africa rocks.
Thumbs-up to SARocks for this initiative.

I’ll second that…

I like the concept and while it has a more personal flavour to ‘South Africa - The Good News‘, isn’t it doing much the same thing?
Of course that need not be a bad thing as the more good news spread about, the better.

Ak …
I think I am too much of a black-hat-thinker and too little yellow… hmmm… Oh! … ja, now I remember…
I am cynical. -
I think every bit helps - even if duplicated in some form or another. The more we get people to start thinking the same, the bigger the difference it can make in the long run.

Thatks for the heads-up - what a great site. I plan to support them 100%. Yes, we have problems but all this negativity isn’t solving anything. Have we become a nation of whiners??
A friend of mine in Joburg who was sent her 100th e-mail petition to sign and pass on to the relevant government official (who would no doubt delete it!!) said “instead of sending out endless petitions, why don’t you use your democratic voice and VOTE to make a change in government?” Only 45% of registered voters in her ward went to the polls last time - so where were the concerned, complaining citizens then? A little less conversation, a little more action please!

Jeanne started to take the words right out of my mouth…
We also need to be responsible active citizens. We can wear the rose-coloured glasses if we want, but we also need to be voting, to be petitioning and demonstrating, laying complaints through the right means, not bribing cops or driving through red robots, staying informed on government’s responses to national/ local problems, etc etc etc.
AND most of all we need to start making our politicians & civil servants feel accountable to US, their employers/ voters/ citizens, cause every day there is another example of how they are easily being allowed to stray from this democratic idea.
If a crowd can be rallied and creative ideas born about how to fly the SA IS GREAT flag, then surely the same can happen with a KEEP SA GREAT flag??

I’m already a supporter and part one of my interview by Max is up there.
