Thanks Telkom

Late yesterday afternoon my Telkom phoneline unceremoniously gave up the ghost. After a quick phone call to 10212 (Telkom fault reporting) to log the problem, I received an sms with a reference number and a message stating, “Telkom will endeavour to resolve the problem as soon as possible”.
Normally one would assume, “as soon as possible” translates to, “It’s Saturday evening, do you think we’ll get to this any time before Tuesday, if you’re lucky?”. However I was quite pleasantly surprised that they actually pitched up at my house 08:00 this morning to replace the cable and access point.
I thought I was still dreaming. Thanks Telkom for the prompt service.
Now let’s see about that shiny new ADSL installation that I’m applying for.
**Updated**
So it seems they were there the whole day. Still outside working on lines at 14:00.

You are very very lucky AQ. It took Telkom 17 days to fix my phone and ADSL line and 34 days for them to fix my brothers phone and ADSL line. I think that this is a once off occurrence and you were the lucky benefactor. Quite frankly - in my opinion - Telkom’s service sucks! Their excuse is always that they have “a big backlog of problems to attend to!”

I’ve been waiting for ADSL since the 24th October.
If the issue had really been escalated like they say everytime i phone them, it would probably be on Chuck Norris’s desk by now.
Terrible service. And they still say 4 to 6 week waiting period. Just to get you signed up before you move to iburst or 3g i’m sure.
