According to research done by Dial-a-Phone, the average mobile phone has more bacteria per square millimeter than a toilet seat.

Joanne Verran, Professor of Microbiology at Manchester Metropolitan University comments: “Mobile phones, like many everyday objects such a telephones and computer keyboards, harbor bacteria. However, being ‘mobile’, they are stored in bags or pockets, are handled frequently, and held close to the face. In other words, they come into contact with more parts of our body and a wider range of bacteria than toilet seats!”

“The phones contained more skin bacteria than the any other object; this could be due to the fact that this type of bacteria increases in high temperatures and our phones are perfect for breeding these germs as they’re kept warm and cozy in our pockets, handbags and brief cases. These bacteria are toxic to humans, and can cause infections if they have the opportunity to enter the body.”

A Dial-a-Phone spokesperson comments: “We take our phones everywhere, being in close contact with our mouths, hands and faces their bound to collect all sorts of nasty germs. The images make look scary but our advice to phone users is to ensure they clean them regularly with an antibacterial wipe!” [via PRWeb]

Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside doesn’t it? Guess now we actually wish mobile phones did emit dubious amounts of microwave radiation so they can nuke all those little nasty bacteria.

That’s why you need a cell phone condom from Skins Mobile to keep the viruses away. That and some garlic, beetroot and a shower of course.

And in other news, Naomi Campbell admitted to assaulting her maid with a cell phone, which left her with four stitches to the head.

dude- i am rapidly reaching the point where i wanna start walking around in one of those spacesuits, fully kitted out with airconditioner and air filter…
…and then i’ll fit one of those double doors with the pressurised space between where my front door is now, and anything and everyone entering will be disinfected first…
…i already wash my hands with an alcohol based waterless cleanser every single time i leave my office and return, and of course before i eat my lunch…
…i wipe down the toilet seat, door handle, flush lever and basin tap with disinfectant wipes before touching them- and i close the toilet lid when i flush it so as not to inhale the water vapour created by flushing!
…if i can help it i don’t touch my client’s keyboard, desk, phone or mouse…
…and i wipe my desk, phone and office door handle with disinfectant wipes on a regular basis!
    d’you think i have a problem?

Haha, bluddy scientists always coming up with ways to make us think we’re dirty.

I think we should be totally anti-science and go around licking toilet seats just to prove that they don’t make us sick either.

And what’s with the poor ol’ toilet seat? Why is everything always compared to the toilet seat? They’re not that dirty!

angel – do the words obsessive compulsive mean anything to you? when last did you check your toothbrush hehe – There was this episode on mythbusters……

Kevin – hehe I agree. Apparently it’s more hygenic for people to kiss on the lips than to shake hands. I think all meetings and greetings (with the opposite sex) should start that way.

  5. angel says:

i have HEARD about the mythbusters episode with the toothbrush, i do not YET rinse mine off with boiling water though…
oc i may be may be- but then i have infected my colleagues with ocd too!
