I Got The TyTN
// January 26th, 2007 // Tech // 17,995 views

The initial excitement of yesterday has now gone and I can focus on letting everyone know that I finally managed to make a decision and opted for the HTC TyTN. I obviously did not heed Rich..!’s warning – I know, I know I have to learn the hard way.
It’s also just in time for the 27Dinner tomorrow. A new toy to show off. Nice. A full report will be out soon – once I figure how to switch the damn thing on (just kidding).

Nice one bro. I also got a new phone this wek, a HTC S620. So far so good.
Enjoy…! -
Nice
Rich…!, good choice. Your new puppy runs an identical OS to mine (WM5 Smartphone), which is funnily enough far slicker in everyday use than WM5 Pocket PC (sorry Aquila, I have to be impartial here). Pocket PC was built as a PDA OS firstly, with phone functionality as an add-on, which makes is slightly clunky for quick-on-the-draw everyday phone use. That being said, it’s superbly powerful if you’re into tinkering with stuff; and the TYTN’s a very tinkerable-with toy!

I’m still holding out for the Nokia N95. These HTC devices are pretty cool devices though with really impressive features.
By the way, Aquila, your licenses for your blog are contradictory. You can’t publish your blog under full copyright and also under Creative Commons. Creative Commons licenses are a departure from copyright because they allow certain uses that copyright doesn’t. I am thrilled that you are publishing under Creative Commons but it would make more sense if you removed the copyright notice.

Rich…! thanks dude – upgraded the E61 so soon? By now you can open up a 2nd-hand cell/car/toy shop par none.
Martin – cool, no offence taken – I must admit that on Thursday evening I was a bit disappointed with some of the features/speed/etc but again I could attribute it to the initial learning factor that I had to pass. Since tinkering really started, I’m quite chuffed. I previously had a range of the Compaq Ipaq’s, so the memory recall kicked in. Look, it’s definitely more of a PDA than a phone, but no complaints just yet.
PS: don’t attempt to take pictures in the dark (as you will see soon enough – it slightly sucks rocks on that front even with that flashlight thingy)
Paul – saw some reviews on the N95 – looks like a lekker phone.
Full marks for spotting the copyright and outdated commons license…I’ll post an update on it.

Aquila bro, when I used the kjam, I was a huge fan of SPB softwarehouse’s products.
They are a huge help as they allow you to do so much more from the today screen. I highly recommend the following:http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/diary/?en
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/weather/?en
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?enI also used their free image viewer. What’s great is how nicely all the apps talk to each other. I see they have a few new goodies that I’m sure will be well worth trying.
Games wise I didn’t install much, but I remember loving Gonz age. Simple kinda mindless fun.
http://www.skatppc.com/ga/index.phpI also used vito tech’s button mapper.

Kobus, definitely go with the TyTn2 – awesome phone and with the flip up screen, you can almost use this as a laptop. makes typing long emails so much better…
