Test your broadband speed

This is pretty nifty. Speedtest.net is a general use broadband connection testing site with many geographically dispersed servers to test your connection speed against. It tests upload and download speeds in a nifty visual display.

I’m still on dailup at home (yeah, I know, late bloomer) so mine really sucks, but I’m sure all you broadband users will find this quite interesting.

  4. Aquila says:

So what is your score there Robert, Eight, Daedalus (with EkBars)

  5. Eight says:

My score’s on my site. 2642kbps download, 2160kbp upload.

I am testing some news toys so when I have to give some of this stuff back, I’m going to go back to regular 1024kbps download (really about 900kbps) and 348kbps upload (really about 200lbps) iBurst.

I do find, though, with large file downloads and DAP, I get really 120 KiloBYTES per second dl. on iBurst.

  6. Aquila says:

Hey – how do I get to be on the toy testing list??

That sounds lightning fast. So iBurst is not bad at all then?

Will be testing iBurst with Daedalus this afternoon at my place to figure out if fixed line ADSL or iBurst is the way to go…

Will keep you informed of our test scores

I had ADSL at my old place, 600m down the road. Had 512 then upgraded to 1M.

It was great, reliable and when I ran out of cap, no throttling was noticeable. Maybe Telkom made an oopsie.

Then I bought a new house, 600m up the road. I knew Telkmo would take time to transfer so I ordered the transfer on 19 January 2006.

I moved in March. Still no transfer. I had to get iBurst to carry me through till my ADSL was transferred. I had a good signal but throughput was around the 200kbps level. Worse than ADSL.

I then installed an antenna on my TV aerial. Throughput went up to full 1mbps.

I am still waiting for the Telkom transfer. They keep sending me invoices for rental on my ADSL line.

When they eventually come through, I’ll tell them to get knotted!
