Tonight’s rainfall presented a perfect opportunity to test the camera again – this time taking pictures of one of my favourite subjects – Lightning.

See some previous shots during the year here, here and here.

Hey dude. Congrats on the new camera… these pics are awesome! – It must have taken you a while to get them just right. Anyway, you should go open a flickr.com account where you can post these. :P

Those are very good pictures. How did you time it to capture the lightning strikes?
What was your shutter speed / exposure time settings?

hehe thanks Tripeak – yeah the cam rocks big time – still trying to figure all the settings out. Lol @ flickr account.

Jacqueline – no probs at all, thanks for the link. Brilliant pics of the snow – Wish it would snow here so we can experience the beauty as well.

Boerseun – a lot of trial and error – not to go into too much detail (otherwise I would be boring the living daylights out of everyone) it so happens that this particular time, the sky would light up first and then the thunder would strike – so I had the shutter pressed half way down, waiting for the sky to light up, and then press down fully to take the pic. This was of course a good test of my reflexes too (hehe).

If you click on the link for each pic and then on properties – the flickr page will give you more details on the settings – but mostly it seemed as though a 1 second exposure, iso speed of 100 and aperture setting of f/5.6 did the trick. Still – a bit of trial and error as I took around 50 pics and got 4 really good ones and some 4/5 other ones that are okay.
