Time For An Upgrade

Seeing it was time to trade-in the old and replace with the new, my new car finally arrived this morning. Keeping in the spirit of “Volvo for Life“, I decided to stay within the Volvo family and upgraded the old S40 2.0, to the new S40 T5.

And what a huge difference between the two it is.

The T5 goes like a rocket and I guess one of the only ways to stay within the legal driving limit is to engage the cruise control. It’s way too easy to just rest your foot on the gas and for it to zoom past the speed limit with very little effort. With a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 2.5-litre, 162 kW engine, it’s an exhilarating drive to say the least.

True, it’s still a Volvo, but I think the sports-kit (optional extra) and the new design, definitely makes it mark to try and move away from the ‘old-man’s car’ stigma. Testimony to this is the fact that it (S40 2.4i) has been nominated for the South African Car of the Year competition (COTY), which will be announced on March 15.

I can’t wait to take this baby on to the open road.

Thanks! I think I need to take a drive through Centurion/Pretoria again to get a pic snapped by the Tshwane Metro. They’re such nice chaps taking hi-resolution digital pictures of your car in action.

Anyone care to sponsor me the ZAR500 for the pic?
