According to a post on Digital Bulletin: Smart phone manufacturer i-mate has launched a 10-part drama thriller, developed exclusively for mobile, the first mobile phone soap to use video.

‘Cjaq’ is a drama series set in a futuristic nightclub where five twentysomethings awake to find themselves trapped after receiving a hoax text message invitation to attend the club opening. The first three episodes are available to download online or stream via GPRS on to any network from the Club i-mate site, with the remaining instalments only available for owners of an i-mate device. It is free to download, although operators may add a charge.

Each ‘Cjaq’ video episode, which lasts two minutes, will be posted daily on the site as a Microsoft Windows WMV file to be played back through Windows Media Player or on any i-mate pocket PC or smart phone.

Jim Morrison, the founder and CEO of i-mate, said: “Wireless video content has a great potential and this drama series is an innovative way for us to deliver a fun consumer viewing experience that engages our customer through the club i-mate portal.”The i-mate range of services offers a full Microsoft suite of applications such as email, internet, MP3 player and instant messenger.

The wireless handheld device manufacturer worked alongside TV production business SMG Television and production company Cool Crew Media to develop the series. “The writing was an exciting challenge to hold the user’s attention in short bursts on a small screen area,” Morrison added.

So these are the “Days of Our Lives” on “7de Laan” in “Egoli“. It does sound interesting. Has anyone tried it out yet?
