What’s wrong with this picture?

I’m not the biggest fan of our taxi services and I know I’m definitely not the only one. Taxi drivers have very little regard for the traffic laws and basically act if they own the roads (and more often than not the sidewalks too).
So what’s wrong with this picture then?
There I was, Tuesday morning traffic on William Nicol just before the N1 offramp and I’m in the far right hand lane. Mr Taxi decides to cut in from the turning lane. See the traffic lights in relation to where we were sitting? Point is – there was no way for him to be there in the first place – but he decided to go for it, come what may. No wonder there are so many accidents on our roads, all because of people not adhering to the rules of the road.
Add to that, the fact that you can bet your money that they will stop straight after an intersection, in the flow of traffic, to load and unload passengers. I also think that it’s not only the fault of the taxi drivers but partially the responsibility of the passengers to give early warning that they want to get off at the next stop.
All I’m praying for is that taxi drivers be more cautious and adhere to the traffic rules, passengers be a little more proactive and for effective law enforcement by Metro Police. Until that day, just have to be content with our ‘love-hate’ relationship with our taxi services.
