According to CARtoday.com, “Juan-Pablo Montoya won a thrilling duel with future McLaren-Mercedes team-mate, Kimi Raikkonen, to win the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday. The Colombian gave the Williams-BMW team its first and only win of the year.
Ferrari’s Rubens Barrichello finished third in a season-finale characterized by unpredictable weather. Renault’s Fernando Alonso was fourth and although Jenson Button retired with an engine failure after just two laps, his BAR team clinched second place in the constructors’ championship ahead of Renault.”
A spectacular finish, especially because it was the last race for Montoya in the Williams-BMW cockpit and in my personal opinion, because Michael Schumacher wasn’t really contesting. This time around it made for some interesting F1 viewing in an otherwise boring season.
Should be interesting to see who gets the second drive for Williams, since a bid to re-sign Jenson Button from BAR-Honda was blocked by the FIA’s Contract Recognition Board.
Mark Webber will join Williams from Jaguar next season and currently, the team’s Brazilian test driver Antonio Pizzonia is the hot favourite for the drive, while David Coulthard and Nick Heidfeld remain in the running.
